In my opinion these are the best five books for toddlers. All thoughts are my own. If you haven’t read them then give them a go. Your child will love them.
The Very Hungry Caterpillar
by Eric Carle
Classic children’s book. Can be purchased in both paperback and as a board book. Tells the story of a caterpillar from hatching out of the egg into a beautiful butterfly. Helps with counting and days of the week. Is interactive with holes through the page to show what the caterpillar has eaten.
Pants
by Giles Andreae and Nick Sharratt
Small children love pants. They are a little bit rude and therefore very funny. It is a picture book with rhyming text. Very colourful with lots of different animals and people wearing a variety of shapes and sizes of pants. My children are always asking for the pants book.
Dear Zoo
by Rod Campbell
Another classic. First published in 1982. Also can be purchased as a paperback or board book. The story lies around sending a letter to the zoo asking for a pet. Children will love lifting the flaps to see the variety of animals sent from the zoo. Has bright and bold images with sturdy flaps. Will they ever send the perfect pet?
I Love You to the Moon and Back
by Little Tiger Press
Board book. Tells the story of love between a parent and child. Perfect for reading with your child. Sturdy pages that are easy for little hands to turn. Big Bear and Little Bear think of new ways that they love each other throughout the day. Really detailed illustrations. Another book that will will be requested to be read lots and lots.
Where’s Spot?
by Eric Hill
Spot’s first adventure book. Can be purchased as a board book or a paperback. Children love lifting the flaps and following the story to find the mischievous little puppy called spot. With simple text and colourful pictures. Another classic story and one which I had as a child. It is nice that my children love the same story the I did.
Please comment if there are any books that your children love that I have missed out of this list.

My three are all out of the toddler phase now, but the hungry caterpillar will always be a firm favourite with everyone. They adored Spot the dog books too when they were younger
Some absolutely classics here. I am proud to say we have them all at home and love them.
Agreed! Spot books are the best for toddlers, they just canβt get enough of the peek a boo flaps, both my boys were obsessed with spot. Great list of books here xx
